 The
recipient of the Philippine Centennial special citation at the Philippine
Festival—the Golden Heart Award—SYM is many of the younger artists
acknowledged mentor. He has established a reputation in the Philippines as
the founding member of the country’s art movement called Dimasalang,
which changed the direction of traditional art.
The
noted impressionist, who has developed a following in Canada, continues to
do commission work for galleries and art collectors in the Philippines. He
has organized a group of local Filipino Canadian artists called Dimasalang
