Allan Coo
Airline Management
| Allan
Coo is Philippine Airlines' Country Manager in
Canada
with office based at the
Vancouver
International
Airport
. He was hired by PAL in 1997 and has contributed to the airline's
continued growth due to his excellent relations with passengers, travel
agents and Filipino-Canadians across the country.
In April 2001, PAL resumed its 3 times a week non-stop service from
Manila
to
Vancouver
. Unsure of how the traveling public would accept the flag carrier, PAL
decided to tag this service to
San Francisco
via
Vancouver
. The convenience of the non-stop flights greatly reduced traveling time
and it quickly became popular for air travelers to the
Philippines
. By the end of the year, flights to
Vancouver
were so popular that the service became exclusively for
Canada
. In May 2003, at the height of the SARS epidemic, PAL increased its
flight frequency to
Vancouver
to four times a week to meet the demand of the traveling public. In April
of 2004,
Las Vegas
was added to the route, picking up passengers in
Vancouver
to fly to that “city of entertainment.” Raised in
Iloilo
, Allan's family moved to
Manila
in 1964.
He completed his elementary and secondary education at
Xavier
School
in Greenhills,
San Juan
. He graduated from De La Salle University with a Bachelor of Arts degree,
major in Hotel Marketing Management. Due to the grim outlook of the hotel
industry in 1982, he decided to take up tourism courses. After graduation
he joined Caravan Travel, arranging package tours and negotiating deals
with various airlines and tour operators. In 1984 Allan was hand picked by
Lufthansa German Airlines to join their agents training course in
Germany
. He was also sent to
Hong Kong
for training by United Airlines.
In 1986, Allan was offered a job at
British Airways in
Manila
and was sent to
London
for an extensive training in airline operations. After his training, he
was assigned as the airline's duty manager at the
Manila
International
Airport
. Allan moved to
Vancouver
in 1992. The lure of working for the nation's flag carrier was hard to
resist and he accepted a position with Philippine Airlines in 1997.
Allan has arranged many group tours to the
Philippines
and promoted PAL's Swingaround Tour packages which offer unforgettable
holiday sprees in some of the most exciting destinations in the
Philippines
and
Southeast Asia
. He arranged the travel itineraries of the Trade Mission to the
Philippines
sponsored by the Philipines-Canada Trade Council of which he is an active
member. Allan participates in many activities of the Filipino Community
particularly the annual Philippine Festival at the
Plaza
of
Nations
.
Allan Coo works with a dedicated staff of 9 professionals, some former PAL
employees who were locally hired in
Vancouver
. He is proud of the fact that Philippine Airlines has become one of the
most respected airlines in
Canada
with a young and modern fleet of aircrafts and a route network that spans
32 foreign cities and 21 domestic points. PAL has completely gone
electronic ticketing for its entire domestic network and is actively
integrating its international flights to the e-ticketing network,
accepting online ticket purchases thru www.philippineairlines.com
This year, Philippine Airlines celebrates its 65th anniversary. Allan
points out that PAL has set several records in aviation, including the
first flight for an Asian airline to cross the Pacific Ocean in 1946 and
the first flight service to
Europe
by an Asian airline in 1947. PAL is
Asia
's oldest active airline today. Its excellent service has won the hearts
of travellers worldwide. – LBC
