Edith
Cabrestante Froment is a Funeral Director at Valley View Funeral Home in
Surrey
B.C. She has many years experience in the funeral industry and has
been praised by grateful families of departed loved ones for being
helpful, caring and compassionate during their time of bereavement.
Edith was born and
raised in
Puerto
Princesa
City
,
Palawan
Province
in the
Philippines
. She graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration (BSBA) with Marketing major from the University of the East
in
Manila
in 1976. She was a college instructor for four years, teaching business
courses at
Palawan
State
University
from 1978-1982. On December 11, 1982, she married Roger Froment, a
Canadian pen friend and moved to
Canada
in August 1983.
Roger and Edith opened
their own funeral home, the Port Coquitlam Funeral Services Ltd. in 1990.
This opened the opportunity for them to offer the “Lamay' which Edith
pioneered in
British Columbia
. The “lamay” (extended hours of vigil) made it possible for families
and friends of the deceased to stay longer in the funeral chapel for
prayers and to meet relatives and friends who come to express sympathy.
This service was to keep with the tradition of honoring deceased in the
Philippines
. When requested, they also provided transportation service to the family
whereby they arranged for family pick-up to and from their funeral home.
The Froments were known
in the community to be a generous and soft-hearted couple. They have
helped many Filipinos who could not afford the normal funeral cost by
offering services within the families' budget and making special
arrangements to make it easier for them lay their deceased loved one to
rest.
Roger and Edith sold
their funeral home in 2000. Edith then joined Valley View Funeral Home in
2002. She is proud to work at Valley View because it gave her an
opportunity to continue serving families and compatriots once again.
“Valley View Funeral Home is the finest funeral home in the Lower
Mainland – second to none, and I am very fortunate to be a part of this
team. It offers personalized service for all faiths and culture and
understands the need for Filipinos to have longer visitation hours.
Families express their appreciation that this can be done,” Edith mused.
She added that “more and more Filipinos are entrusting the care of their
loved ones to Valley View and this indicates a wide acceptance from our
community.”
Edith receives many
enquiries from people in our community regarding funeral arrangements,
burials, cremation or shipments of remains to the
Philippines
and she handles them all with professionalism and genuine concern. She is
very proud to be working for Valley View and be a part of a professional,
knowledgeable and caring staff that serves with dignity and pride. - LBC
